Honda XR250

Off - Road Trail Riding

We use the Honda XR 250 for our off road Jungle Tours, we can also use them for the road tours.

The Honda XR 250 has a 4 stroke 250 cc engine, we find them perfect for the conditions. They are light, have electric start and powerful enough for the trails.

Driving in Thailand.

Driving is on the left side of the road.

Thai motorists are generally pretty relaxed. On the major highways speeds can be quite fast, but in the outside lane you may find someone crawling along very slowly, driving habits are often erratic and unpredictable.

On local roads speeds are much slower, we will be traveling faster than any local traffic. Thai people are not used to motorcycles traveling as fast as we do, so they are always surprised when we appear beside them so quickly, therefore its important to anticipate their moves early. look out for cars making U turns or turning off to the right in front of you, also cars on the other lane swooping across the road in front of you to turn right. Great care is required when driving a motorbike in Thailand.

Is not unusual to have bikes, cars or agricultural machinery driving on the wrong side of the road and the situation gets much more dangerous and confusing after dark.

MCTT tours are run in quiet rural areas, we dont ride much in the city and try to avoid riding after dark.

Thailand bike tours

In the rural areas practically everyone drives honda dream scooters or pickup trucks, even the cars cruise along, nobody is in a rush.

In the city were traffic jams and a long waits at traffic lights is common. Filtering through the queues of cars on bikes is normal behavior, motorists entering the traffic flow from a side road on the left - just sort of ease their way out.
When joining a major road you don't hang around waiting for some one to let you out, if you do that you will become very unpopular with the queue behind you. its just a case of easing your way out into the flow of traffic.

The basic rules are Sizes matters - Give way to anything bigger than you, Drive very defensively and then some more.

Try and anticipate the most bazaar thing that could possibly happen and then you wont be surprised when a car or bike simply swoops across your path to make a right turn, vehicles will pass you on your left. expect to meet pickups loaded to the gunnels, top heavy, swerving way over to your side of the road.
